By Odin's beard! This is turning out to be a big week of comic book movie news.

Marvel Studios announced today that Academy Award® nominated actress Natalie Portman has been cast to star as Jane Foster in the studio's highly anticipated movie Thor.

In the early "Thor" comics, Jane Foster was a nurse who became Thor's first love. The character will be updated for the feature adaptation.

Portman will star opposite Chris Hemsworth who will play Thor and Tom Hiddleston who will play the villain Loki. Kenneth Branagh will direct the film.

Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige will produce Thor. Principal photography for the film is set for early 2010. The film will be released in the US on May 20, 2011 and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

Ryan Reynolds is the Green Lantern!

Oh me, oh my. I've been away for a while. Didn't expect Shanghai to have Blogspot blocked. I couldn't access the blog the whole time I was there..

Right now, nothing beats the feeling of posting some solid comic book movie news!

Warner Bros. Pictures has chosen Ryan Reynolds to play the title role in their upcoming Green Lantern movie, due out in theaters on June 17, 2011.

The action-adventure will be directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, Golden Eye) and produced by Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti. Berlanti wrote the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green.

Production is expected to begin in January.

Oh yes! I'm sure glad Warner Bros./DC is moving forward with AT LEAST ONE superhero movie. Reynolds looks right as Hal Jordan. No complaints here.

The End of Wolverine?

Marvel has unveiled this teaser image a few days ago. Hmm... Haven't they done something like this before? This looks to be something else. Something in-continuity.

They killed Captain America last year and they're bringing him back now. Are they planning to kill off Wolverine next?

Transformers Spotlight: Metroplex

I found this awesome cover for IDW's Transformers Spotlight: Metroplex, due out in stores this week. It features the Autobot City himself!

This bot has been seriously underused. It's about the time they gave him his own story. I had Metroplex as a toy so I have an attachment, see? Too bad he didn't make the movie.

Six Shot, the most feared Decepticon in the known galaxy is on the hunt—and the Throttlebots are his prey! When they land on a remote planet and find a deserted city, they find that despite appearances, they are not alone. METROPLEX IS REVEALED—but is the transforming city friend or foe? Features two covers, one a wraparound by Marcelo Matere!

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen review

Call me shallow. Call me immature. This is the bestest movie in the world! It's gonna earn a gazillion billion dollars! For sure! Bring on Part 3! Right. Now!

...Ehem...

In case I'm not making myself clear, I just got back from watching Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. And I LOVED it. The movie's awesome and no doubt very entertaining. Some people didn't like it that much though, and some actually hated it. I'm going to be as impartial as I can with this review.

Let's get the facts out first. This movie is directed by the god of war Michael Bay and it stars the unstoppable Shia Labeouf and the sexiest woman in the world, Megan Fox.

The sequel begins two years after the events of the first Transformers. The Autobots have joined forces with the U.S. government, and is working together with a special forces team, the Nest, tasked to specifically hunt down the remaining Decepticons. New Autobots have arrived, most notably Arcee, the female Autobot and the twins Skids & Mudflap. Seeing them in action sets the movie off to a fast start. The Autobots and Nest have just taken out another Decepticon hidden in China, who warns them about the coming of The Fallen.

Sam Witwicky (Shia Labeouf) meanwhile is off to college. His parents, Ron and Judy (played by Kevin Dunn and Julie White), are being extra protective now that he's going away. His girlfriend, Mikaela (Megan Fox), is unhappy about the long distance relationship they'll be having.

All hell breaks loose when the Decepticons steal a fragment of the All-Spark, and used it to resurrect Megatron.

I want to start with the movie's greatest strength - the CGI and special effects! It's amazing by how seamless they are able to put together what's real and what's CGI. The Transformers look very, very realistic. There's this part where I saw Optimus's face reflect on the shiny metal on his chest. It's those little details that impresses me. What's more, the Transformers and their fight scenes look so much clearer and easier to follow now than in the first film. The forest battle especially was over the top. I love Prime's fire blades.

As for the story, there is a plot here if you listen closely. Although it's very easy to get lost in all the eye candy and explosions. We get to learn more about the Transformers' history and their connection to Earth.

There's not much to comment about the acting except a lot of shouting and running by everyone. Also, Sam's mom was really annoying. She was just too much.

I love seeing the new Transformers. Arcee looks really slick times three. The twins Skids & Mudflap were a bit annoying. Optimus Prime and Bumblebee are becoming my favorite Transformers. Ironhide and the gang were there too, but only for supporting roles. Devastator was a letdown. Soundwave was a welcome sight though. And Jetfire! Whoo boy! The bot's a must-see. The Fallen himself is okay, nothing more.

Michael Bay brings in the whole package here. Hot cars, hot girls, giant robots, big guns, huge explosions, etc. This movie can be likened to a two hour toy commercial, but it also looks like an ad for the U.S. Army. We get to see here the full array of the U.S.' military power from aircraft carriers, to battleships, tanks, fighter jets, etc. There's so much to see!

This movie is 2 hours and 30 minutes long but it never gets boring. Just sit back and enjoy the ride when watching this popcorn movie. Leave your thinking cap at home.

Transformers: ROTF Ravages The Box Office!

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen sent shock waves with the first mega-blockbuster launch of the year, rocketing to $109 million over the weekend.

Ravaging approximately 10,000 screens at 4,234 sites, Revenge of the Fallen logged the biggest June opening weekend ever as well as the highest-grossing non-holiday, non-Friday opening weekend, and it ranked seventh overall.

On the foreign front, Revenge of the Fallen invaded 58 countries and raked in $166.1 million Wednesday-to-Sunday on 9,910 screens, highlighted by an English language record in China. It has accumulated $190.3 million thus far, bringing the worldwide total to $390.3 million.

By the matrix! This movie just paid for itself and made a huuuge profit in five days (its reported production budget was $200 million)! No surprise here. I just came back from watching this and it blew me away! This is one of the greatest summer movies ever! I bet it's gonna make $800 million worldwide easy.

Michael Jackson Tribute Comic from Bluewater

I felt really devastated when I first saw it on TV. Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, has passed away at age 50... This news just came out of nowhere. It was shocking and it hit real hard.

Like a lot of people, I am a big fan of Michael's music. I have Heal the World on my playlist and I listened a lot to his HIStory album back in high school. His music was definitely a big part of my life.

Rest In Peace, Michael Jackson. We'll never forget you.

Bluewater Productions will be paying tribute to his memory and legacy with a special collectors edition biography comic.
The newest addition to the publisher's critically acclaimed biography library will trace Jackson's rise as a musical prodigy with the “Jackson 5” through last Thursdays sad end. The book will feature highlights from his storied career and cover his enigmatic private life.

“Michael Jackson's music served as the soundtrack to countless lives…including mine,” said Bluewater president Darren G. Davis, “His influence on our culture has been profound.”

“TRIBUTE: Michael Jackson, King of Pop,” features a wraparound cover and foreword by "The Official Michael Jackson Fan Club’s" Giuseppe Mazzola. Mazzola was also Jackson's personal friend. The issue is being written by Wey-Yuih Loh, (Political Power: Colin Powell” and “Political Power: Joe Biden) and illustrated by Giovanni Timpano (Vincent Price Presents). Noted cover artist Vinnie Tartamella will also provide an alternate wraparound cover.

Uncanny X-Men #510 review

Alriiight! I'm on an Uncanny X-Men marathon here. Let's get the ball rolling.

SOME SPOILERS BELOW

We continue right where we left off. The Sisterhood have ambushed and taken out the senior X-Men right in their own home, and are now going after the young ones. It seems that they are prepared only for the older members and don't know about the new kids like Pixie, X-23, Armor, and the Cuckoos. Wolverine is able to handle himself though, and Emma gets some unexpected help.

The X-Men are able to turn things around eventually, but not before the Sisterhood got what they came for - in Wolverine's room! At the end, the X-Men gather around to talk about the attack. Cyclops asks Wolverine what the Sisterhood wanted in his room. Wolverine reveals that they took a lock of Jean's hair, which he had kept.

Geez! Talk about being obsessed. This is exactly something Wolverine would do, if you think about it. The guy's been messed in the head so much and he really loved Jean. She's his ultimate "can't-have".

What I like about this issue is it's more straightforward. Fraction has chosen to devote every page to the fight at hand. He is again able to use as much X-Men as possible here.

The Sisterhood's plan is becoming more clear now. They're obviously planning to resurrect Jean or something with her lock of hair. Judging by the test they did last issue, Madelyn must be planning to take over Jean's body or mind control her. Are we about to see the re-resurrection of Jean Grey?? Could she be coming back again? It seems unlikely.

Land's art continues to suffer, and it becomes more apparent with all the fight scenes here. I was expecting to see Wolverine getting back at Deathstrike for puncturing his lung. While he did, the scene happened off panel. Land is obviously very dependent on photo references cause there's just no flow to his action scenes. His style is more fitting for comic covers and posters. That's for sure.

Overall, a great issue nonetheless. I can't wait to see how it all wraps up.
