I realize how late this review is to the party but seeing how
Siege #2 isn't out yet, a recap and thoughts on issue #1 should still be relevant.
SPOILERS BELOW
What can I say but this looks to be the most exciting event Marvel has come out yet. Norman Osborn has begun his invasion of Asgard and it's go time for him and his Dark Avengers. You know, no matter how evil writer Brian M. Bendis makes Norman Osborn, he still manages to make him look good at what he does. Norman is well in command and he knows what he's doing. His attack is well planned and executed, taking the Asgardians by surprise.
Pedaling back a little, Loki has given Norman his tragedy and reason (excuse) for the invasion. They've lured and tricked Volstagg into battling some super villains that ended in a massive explosion in the middle of Chicago, killing thousands. Having shown that the Asgardians are a threat and that Asgard does not belong on Earth, Norman waits no further and takes action immediately. He instructs Ares to draw up the battle plan and rally the troops. We get to see how not everyone is keen on invading Asgard. It's practically suicide to do so. Ares and the Dark Avengers express their disagreements but Norman convinces them to push through.

After a rousing speech by Ares to rally Osborn's forces, the invasion begins. Sentry delivers the first blow by smashing through Asgard's walls. Norman in his Iron Patriot armor and the Dark Avengers head the first wave. The attack is well coordinated as the Asgardians are caught off guard.
Not later, the god of thunder Thor shows up. He is however intercepted by the Sentry, who knocks him to the ground. Thor hammers Sentry back but the Dark Avengers arrive and gang up on him. They've planned for this. Thor eventually goes down as the last page shows Captain America catch everything on TV. He looks furious.
Alright, recap over. Bendis' pacing for the issue is perfect. I feel like I'm watching a Jerry Bruckheimer movie. Of course, a lot of the credit goes out to the artist Olivier Coipel. He can draw the big action required for this story. His art is gorgeous here, more so than usual! Not to mention everything looks so crisp and clean.
Overall, a terrific start to this year's Marvel event. I have no complaints except that I'm left riled up over them beating up Thor. Norman Osborn is winning so far but it won't be the case for long.
